TikTok made me do it! I polled my followers, asking if they’d join me for a beginner flow. The response was overwhelming! So I created this slinky, fluid piece full of beautiful fundamentals and fakey flexibility, and taught it there over a week and a half in quick, one-minute cuts. This video is the “choreographer’s cut,” with real-time video and more in-depth explanation. It was filmed vertically for TikTok, but that does make it very mobile-friendly!
This piece is suitable for the absolute beginner who is just finding their stability in heels. It can also be done in socks! There are no complicated transitions, fast choreography or advanced heelwork. Just beautiful, classic lines and mellow slow flow that will build strength and confidence. The song is Molasses by Kan Wakan.

Pole Orbit is, at heart, a biweekly newsletter collecting glorious video pieces from all kinds of movement artists, including polers, with a bit of my own writing mixed in. I am to make something that even makes me want to leap off the couch and race to the studio. Paid subscriptions are $12/month and include the Pole Orbit newsletter, these choreography tutorials, features, reviews, and more on the online hub - as well as the News Desk community updates. These dollars support me as an artist, for which I am endlessly grateful.
